Major 7th (7)

A major 7th is an interval of 11 semitones, one half step below the octave. It creates luminous tension that resolves strongly upward to the root. The major 7th defines the Ionian and Lydian modes (TODO link to mode) and is the hallmark of major 7th chords. It inverts to a minor 2nd.
