Minor 2nd (♭2)

A minor 2nd is an interval of 1 semitone (a half step), creating strong dissonance.

Minor 2nds occur naturally between scale degrees 3–4 and 7–1 in the Major Scale. The Phrygian mode is defined by a minor 2nd above its root.
